FAQs

Why should I consider joining PWFL?

Founded in 1952 as the Canandaigua Business and Professional Women, the current Professional Women of the Finger Lakes organization was established in 2010 under New York State Women, Inc. with a mission of "Building powerful women professionally, personally, and politically." Year-round and amidst their other personal and professional commitments, PWFL members host and participate in networking events, social and educational gatherings, and fundraisers for the organization's annual scholarships.

Whether you’re looking for a way to get involved in the community, a connection to local networking opportunities, or just a fun group of women to socialize with, PWFL is the place for you. Reach out to any of our members or directly to the board at pwflnys@gmail.com if you’d like to learn more.

What is the cost of membership?

Although many organizations charge annual dues in the hundreds, PWFL has made a commitment to make membership affordable. The annual membership is $60.50 if paid online; the dues are paid up front and are non-refundable. Membership starts when you submit your application. After each year, members get an email notification when it’s time to renew and can decide accordingly (it does not automatically renew).

What are the steps to membership?

Click the “Become a Member” button at the top of any page to be directed to the New York State Women, Inc. Membership Application. When filling out the Membership Information section, select Professional Women of the Finger Lakes as your chapter. We will automatically add you to our email list so that you get updates about upcoming events, but be sure to follow us on LinkedIn and Facebook as well for more news!

Do I have to live in Canandaigua to be a member?

The reach of PWFL goes beyond the Canandaigua area. Members live in Farmington, Avon, Rochester, Geneva, Victor, and Canandaigua. There is no regional restriction on membership. PWFL is open to all professional women.

What committees could I join?

There are many committees to choose from. Go to the "About Us" dropdown and click on the "Committees" tab. There you will find descriptions of each of the committees and their chairs. Feel free to reach out to learn more about joining!
